But Soriya’s waking hours in the apartment and its surroundings are punctuated by terrifying, bloody visions, almost as though she were a conduit for horrors of the past wanting to seep into the present. Inrasothythep Neth and Sokyou Chea’s blood-chilling psychological horror explores a personal and political past through the present, transforming a characterful space into an insidious environment. Surrounded by modern high-rises, this decrepit structure, with its brutalist architecture and peeling surfaces, is a relic from a dark period in history whose painful memories it has absorbed. In tracing Soriya’s ominous journey back to her roots, Tenement hints at a necessary reckoning with Cambodia’s political past without overplaying its historical dimension. It’s an impressive work from a woefully underrepresented national cinema.

郭法曾,邵曉薇,李緯,劉袖杰,孟春江,王仁1961年，我國國民經濟正處于嚴重困難時期，中共中央起草了《人民公社工作條例（草案）》（簡稱《60條》）。4月1日，國家主席劉少奇回故鄉湖南，考察農村工作。當他看見一雙雙饑餓的眼睛和一張張狼吞虎咽的嘴時，對《60條》是否符合農村實情產生了疑問。他召開干部座談會聽取意見，與會者卻閃爍其辭。劉少奇于是到群眾中去，與老百姓直接交流，了解到了人們對公共食堂的反感。他把得到的情況寫信向毛主席匯報。
