　　Following her mother’s death, manga artist Soriya travels to her ancestral home in Phnom Penh, with hopes of reconnecting with her distant family and using the visit as inspiration for her work. All goes well initially. Renting an apartment in Metta, a rundown Khmer Rouge-era housing complex, her visit to her maternal relatives finds her welcomed with open arms. But Soriya’s waking hours in the apartment and its surroundings are punctuated by terrifying, bloody visions, almost as though she were a conduit for horrors of the past wanting to seep into the present.　　Inrasothythep Neth and Sokyou Chea’s blood-chilling psychological horror explores a personal and political past through the present, transforming a characterful space into an insidious environment. Surrounded by modern high-rises, this decrepit structure, with its brutalist architecture and peeling surfaces, is a relic from a dark period in history whose painful memories it has absorbed. In tracing Soriya’s ominous journey back to her roots, Tenement hints at a necessary reckoning with Cambodia’s political past without overplaying its historical dimension. It’s an impressive work from a woefully underrepresented national cinema.

 抗戰(zhàn)初期的冀中平原上，日寇的“三光”政策所到之處，村村墳瑩、遍野哭聲。平地一聲驚雷，馬本齋（里坡 飾）高舉抗日義旗，從東北返鄉(xiāng)成立抗日義勇隊(duì)，網(wǎng)絡(luò)民間抗日志士，抗擊日寇的侵略。由于缺乏正確的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)，回民義勇隊(duì)在最初的戰(zhàn)斗中損失慘重，幸得八路軍營(yíng)救，方獲重生。馬本齋毅然斷決利誘，率部參加了八路軍，并將隊(duì)伍改編為回民支隊(duì)。他的副官白守仁（王孝忠 飾）暗中與日寇勾結(jié)，企圖拉隊(duì)伍投敵，馬本齋怒火中燒，當(dāng)眾將其擊斃。兇惡的日寇抓來(lái)馬母(胡朋 飾)逼馬本齋就范。馬母英勇不屈，絕食殉國(guó)。目睹日寇的卑鄙暴行，馬本齋心中激發(fā)了更強(qiáng)烈的民族仇恨......
