Ay?e, Ali, Mehmet and Zeynep are middle-class millennials struggling to make ends meet in Istanbul. Either still living with their parents or hardly getting by without help from their families, they are all beset by similar woes: money crunch, joblessness, social isolation. In view of the world’s horrors that Zeynep enumerates in her diary entries, these are minor problems, ‘slight disasters’, but they are all-consuming, at least to the extent of making them cry in the still of the night. 　　However, Umut Subasi’s first feature, Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster, is not a melodrama. With an appealingly light touch, it diagnoses the malaise of a generation that has run up against a dead end, one whose future prospects are indistinguishable from a game of chance. This is a world where astrology, the lottery and online personality tests compete with visa and job applications as life-shaping elements. 　　Fittingly, the film is structured around chance and coincidence, with its handful of characters encountering each other in every permutation, as though there were no world outside this small social bubble.  華江鋼鐵公司原是一家地處川滇交界的國家鋼鐵骨干企業，曾在1960年代創造了生產上的奇跡，但走到1979年已舉步維艱，許多職工一心調走。危難之時，總經理田耕（翟俊杰）許諾不久的將來會讓華鋼舊貌換新顏。隨后，他與黨委書記肖沛成（黃凱）及做了他大半輩子堅實后盾的總經濟師仲天文（鄭在石）商議，向國務院遞呈了華鋼承包責任制方案，承諾會在頭年上繳5千萬利潤的基礎上，逐年向政府上繳遞增7%的利潤，獲批準。田耕的改革大刀闊斧卻略帶專橫：得知看重的已婚年輕人藍雨濛（唐國強）與助理工程師馮璐（王姬）“沉溺”于兒女情長時，他不問青紅將鴛鴦棒打后任藍作副總經理；甚至希望音樂前程一片大好的女兒嬡媛將來也回華鋼工作，但媛媛決定完成母親江靜雯（穆寧）未竟的事業——江靜雯原本也可在音樂上有很大作為，卻為了田耕將事業放棄。為了完成6年內將利潤翻一番的目標，田耕再向國務院遞交同國際銀團借貸2億3千萬美元建設二期工程的方案，又獲支持。但在此問題上，因為國際銀團提出以華鋼的固資產做抵押方可貸款，仲天文與他發生激烈爭執且堅決不讓步，無奈之下，田耕忍痛作出外調仲天文支援寶鋼建設的決定，自己帶著藍雨濛來到北京簽署了貸款合同。而在華鋼二期工程如期開工后，他深知借貸的巨款需要留待后任藍雨濛和華鋼的全體職工去償還，并醒悟自己欠下了太多的親情、友情債。
